NEW YORK -- Coffee giant Starbucks announced this month that it would close most of its 7,000 U.S. stores for three hours on the evening of Feb. 26.
But now that that day is actually here, what are coffee lovers saying on the Internet about Tuesday's 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. closure?
"For New Yorkers, the news meant more than the prospect of a couple of miserable hours of caffeine deficiency. The thought alone of a Starbucks-free life is sufficient here for many to experience a panic attack." -- watchingamerica.com
"While it's doubtful that three hours of training will reverse years of gathering mediocrity, it's certainly a symbol of a company that cares about quality." -- alldeaf.com
"I have to check/ask for foam on my latte @ most of the stores I go into. Not extra foam, just the foam that it is supposed to be topped with! I had this problem a couple of years ago, and it has now resurfaced. Retraining would be a good thing!" -- starbucksgossip.typepad.com
"Starbucks is more of an addiction than cigarettes. I would never step foot in that place." -- Miss Glock on topix.com
The decision to close the stores was made so that the 135,000 managers and other employees can be re-trained.
