Hey Kids! Comics!

Today on Pop Culture America with John and Dave, we'll be talking to David Hajdu, author of The Ten-Cent Plague, about the hysteria surrounding comics and juvenile delinquency in the 1940s and 1950s. The height of comics art and mayhem was reached by EC Comics and its legendary line of books, including Tales from the Crypt, Two-Fisted Tales, Weird Science, and most successfully, Mad.

The centerpiece of Hajdu's book is the testimony by EC publisher William Gaines before a Senate subcommittee hearing, where he unsuccessfully attempted to defend his work and industry. In the video below, you'll see a nice brief history of EC and a snippet of Gaines opening statement, as well as his receipt of an honor at the Horror Hall of Fame.
